Code of Conduct
London Web Standards enforces a clear Code of Conduct, this Code of Conduct covers all events that we organise. Please contact us for any queries.
All participants are required to agree with the following code of conduct. For the avoidance of doubt, participants include attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, organisers, members of our Discord server, and staff at any venue we are using for events.
Organisers will enforce this code throughout London Web Standards events, including in our online spaces and during any social events. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

London Web Standards is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Mastodon, Twitter, and other online media. Participants violating these rules may be expelled from events without a refund and may be banned from future events and/or the London Web Standards Discord server at the discretion of the organisers.
The Less Quick Version Permalink ¶
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material.
Sponsors and speakers will be asked to provide their materials in advance of events so that the organisers can ensure they do not breach the code of conduct. If a speaker or sponsor uses materials at an event that were not provided in advance, immediate action will be taken in the event that any of those materials breach our code of conduct.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior or behavior that breaches our code of conduct, organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from events without a refund, and may be banned from future events and/or the London Web Standards Discord server at the discretion of the organisers.
We expect participants to follow these rules at events, in our online spaces, and at any event-related social events.
Raising a concern during an event Permalink ¶
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns in-person or online, please contact an organiser immediately. We will share how to recognise and contact organisers at the start of our events.
Organisers will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe, whether that person chooses to leave or remain at our event. We value your attendance.

London Web Standards events and self-ID Permalink ¶
Following the recent Supreme Court Ruling in For Women vs Scotland, we feel it is important to state that we remain committed to a policy of self ID at all London Web Standards events. This includes all attendees being able to use toilet facilities that they feel most closely match their gender alignment and we will be working with the venues to ensure this will be the case. We will not tolerate gender policing at our events and consider such behavior to be a breach of our code of conduct.
